SAKURA: Hanover Street, London 0

July 30, 2009

The DAY my sister found out I was moving to London she called me and said, ”I have ONE word for you – SAKURA”. She said that it was THE BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD and that I would love it and once I went I would go back 24/7……she was right.

I DO NOT KNOW WHY IT HAS TAKEN ME 10 MONTHS to follow her advice – maybe a conscious rebellion thing….a sibling stand off – I dunno….but the joke was on me as, for crying out loud, this place is heaven on earth.

From the moment I walked in I commenced weeping. The place has such a calm and authentically Japanese feel to it. We were ushered to a large table at the rear of the restaurant and handed menus immediately. Drinks orders were taken and we were left to choose our food. Service – tick.

We started with some deliiiiiiiiiciously fresh salmon sashimi, California maki rolls, and pork gyoza. All brilliant – as I wiped the tears from my eyes I said to myself – WHY WHY WHY didn’t I listen to my sister earlier?!? I just love how ”made to order” everything clearly was – The California rolls were warmmmmmmmmmmm for chrisake!

For main I had chicken teriyaki whilst husbies had ginger and soy beef – both were very very flavoursome – generous servings accompanied with gorgeous Japanese cabbage salads dressed in liquid heaven – probably some sort of miso vinegar?!!! CRY CRY CRY.

Prices are reasonable – I think mains were aroundddddddddddd £10.

I have been back 2 times this week already – and have cravings as I type. I cannot get enough. This is now in my top 5 places to eat in London for shizzzzzzzle.
