Sweet Potato, Gorgeous Greens and a DESSERT TO DIE FOR! 6

June 13, 2012

To celebrate one of my oldest friends in the world’s Engagement, and the fact that she was here visiting sydney from her London home (boo hooooooo) – a get-together was had by her family and mine!

We have been friends with A and her fam since before she was born, before I was born…. because before we were born, our parents were already very dear friends, in fact, I think my parents actually met through her family! Or so some story goes…..

Anyway, a lovely evening was had by one and all, plenty of laughs and an OVERWHELMING ABUNDANCE of delicious food….

In this post I will show you 3 of the dishes from the night; 1) Asparagus, Zucchini and Pea Salad w Mint and Feta 2) Ottolenghi’s famous Sweet Potato Gratin and 3) Sister’s RIDICULOUS Chocolate, Fig and Hazelnut Semifreddo cake with Hot Chocolate Fudge Sauce.

ASPARAGUS, ZUCCHINI AND PEA SALAD

I’ve actually posted about this before. So if you want the deets, click here.

In addition, below are some pretty pics just to make you smile. This salad is SO CRISP, SO FRESH, SO DELICIOUS….AND HEALTHY TOO! Credit to my Sis for the this recipe (as well as the dessert one! Told you she was talented!)

SWEET POTATO GRATIN

This is actually a recipe from the Ottolengi cookbook, the first book they published, called, surprisingly “Ottolenghi”. Regular readers are aware of my OBSESSION with this book. EVERY RECIPE in it is weep-worthy. RUN, DO NOT WALK TO BUY THIS BOOK. The recipe is here and below are some snapity snap snap snapples.

There are NO. WORDS.

We love you Ongeline!

The sweet potato looks delish!! I really dislike cream, do you think some ricotta would work?

Ricotta isn’t the best cheese to use for something like this as it’s not really a “melting cheese”. As such, it won’t work well as a binder. You can definitely use a combo of milk and a melting cheese though, anything from cheddar to mozzarella would work! :) If you google “gratin with milk” you will see some good recipes :)

Angela! You are WAY TOO KIND! Thank-you!

We can definitely share the recipe for this dessert if that’s what you want. In fact lots of people have asked me for it (on FB and in person!) and I have decided to do the dessert as a post of it’s own. I hope to do this soon but will need to check with my Sis as it’s her recipe and Im going to get her to cook it whilst I snap the step by step shots! Please stay tuned to the blog so that you don’t miss it. Perhaps if you are not yet subscribed that might be a good idea as you will receive an email when I do the post and you won’t have to check back every day! Alternatively, you can “LIKE” the Phoodie Facebook page (there is a button on the homepage of the blog where you can easily do this) and again, that way you will be alerted the minute I upload the post! :) P
