Chez Janou: Paris, France 0
October 20, 2009
I asked one of the Chefs that I was working with what her 1st choice of Lunch restaurant in Paris would be – I gave her no other limitations or instructions and her answer was CHEZ JANOU – NO QUESTION.
After a 2nd person, whose opinion I respected, gave me the same answer, my mind was made up. My 2 day, 1 lunch, trip to Paris now had a 1pm meal destination.
Chez Janou is located in the heart of The Marais in Paris. After ducking and diving around loads of gorgeous boutiques we headed straight for quaint corner that Janou lay upon.
Three of us lunched together – we shared the ratatouille with delicious bread for entree – it was served with anchovy paste and olive tapenade – all absolutely scrumptious – and plenty for 3 people!!!!
Mains were 2 – salmon with creamy leek sauce and 1 – risotto with scallops. Mine was the salmon and as simple as the dish sounds, and was, it tasted beyond phenomenal. One of the most delicious and perfectly cooked pieces of salmon I have ever had. The creamy sauce wasn’t OVERLY creamy but it was intense enough to completely fill me up! L’s scallop risotto looked amazing – she said it was fab – again, absolutely perfectly cooked with a generous serve of meaty scallops on top.
The interior of this place is very charming, prices are completely reasonable and I really cannot recommend it highly enough for a local, Provencal, very traditional French lunch that will NOT disappoint!
