A Pot Plant Cake for 5 Inspiring Women 6
June 18, 2012
In May, I had the opportunity to make a cake for some pretty special girlies….
I needed to make a cake that represented these 5 women, their strength, courage, their unity and their positivity.
I came up with the concept of 5 pot plants (each about 45cm in height all up) sitting together in a terracotta dish surrounded by pebbles, as I thought this symbolised the things that I described above AND I thought it would be cool to do a “novelty cake”, you know, looks like you can’t eat it but really you can!
I just loved the concept of the women sitting down at the function they were going to be at, and someone saying “Here’s the cake!” and carrying out the “Plants” and them going “WHEEEERE’S the cake?!” It kind of happened like that and it was fab!
THE LADIES were Fab. I’m SO lucky that I got to meet them, learn from them, be uplifted by them.
Thank-you Sally, Leisl, Roslyn, Dennise and Jessica xxxxx (oh and Thanks Donny for arranging everything!)
Regarding the cake, basically, it was made by layering, in small terracotta pots, my Mum’s famous double chocolate fudge mud cake (I think I need to do a post on this alone, WITH the recipe….if she’ll allow me….Mum?!!?) with lashingsssss of rich chocolate ganache, then topping it off with chocolate “soil” and artificial flowers. The “pebbles” in the main terracotta dish were edible too….and absolutely delicious!
MAKING THE GANACHE (for a run through, check out this other post)
CHOCOLATE “SOIL” (Dark Chocolate cookies blitzed to soil consistency)
THE FUDGE CAKE (Made in large trays and cut out into circles to fit pots – lots of leftover bits!)
SMALL BAGS (With mini shovel and jar to take home a share of the delicious “pebbles”!)
