MULBERRY STREET: Westbourne Grove, London 0

June 13, 2009

It’s funny. Whenever I want to exaggerate about how huge something is, I say ”it was the size of my head!!” ….. and normally, that’s about 6 times bigger than whatever it was, actually is…………..but this time…………forget the size of my, or anyone elses head, Mulberry Street pizzas are the size of 12 heads stuck together!

Located smack bang in the middle of bustling Westbourne Grove lies this New York style pizza joint. The space has a very cool vibe to it, with dimly lit seating areas, including booths and bar stools, tv screens, featuring ball games and old Madonna videos, and a life size funky colourful NYC mural sprawled across the rear wall.

The staff are friendly and generally efficient – ok, our waitress forget to place our order of rocket salad with the kitchen, but this took 2 seconds to rectify – and the pizzas were good. Again, I don’t say great but rather, good.

Admittedly, as everyone would agree, the 21 inch doughy delights are very impressive – incredibly thin, hand stretched, and crunchy from sides through to base….but unfortunately, the very ‘light’ spread of toppings disappoints, and the flavour is thereeeeeeeeee, but lurking subtly not punch-punch in your face, as it should be with a pizza NYC-style.

Very good value for money – 4 of us had a couple of drinks each, a salad and one jumbo pizza and it came to just over 50 quid – we had a nice relaxed night and we all agreed we’d definitely go back.

Room for improvement…..not much more to say….. I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing!?
