GARDENING FUN! A DOUBLE BIRTHDAY PARTY! 23

And phun it was!

Choosing a theme for Teddy’s 1st birthday (which by the way is ALSO husbies’ birthday!) was never going to be easy. I wanted to be original and I wanted it to be fitting to both son and husband. After much deliberation, “Gardening Fun” seemed like the perfect choice. Husbies’ is gardening mad and son loves hanging out there watching and I’m sure as he gets older he’ll become a good assistant!

Note: I’m sure lots of you will want more details on the cake, so here is a little description. The cake was set in a plastic tub (looked like terracotta) that was approx 1 m long and about a 50cm high. I baked 8 rectangular sponge cakes (high ones) and cut each in half. So that gave me 16 rectangular “pieces” to work with. I formed the cake by placing four sponges side by side, covering them all in chocolate ganache and loads of M and M’s and then repeating the process until the cake was 4 levels high. The top level was then covered in a thick layer of chocolate ganache and on top of that I placed the “chocolate soil” (lots and lots and lots of dark chocolate cookies that I smashed to smithereens with a rolling pin!) The pebbles were also chocolate, I bought them online here at Lollyworld. I accessorised with plastic herbs and herb garden stakes that matched the plants e.g. “sage” in front of the sage plant etc.

OMG Amazing. I really don’t know what else to say….of course the cake is a masterpiece but am also so impressed by the cutlery, the watering cans, the scarecrow (love him) and all of the other details!! Lucky birthday boys!! XX
